Supported Recruitment, our colleagues and supporters have taken on a mammoth Golfathon this week to raise money for charity.
The team at Supported Recruitment Ltd, led by Director Richard Robinson, took on the golfing challenge to raise funds for the Candlelighters, the company’s chosen charity. Supported Recruitment chose the charity as they want to raise funds and awareness of the incredible work Candlelighters do to supports families and children affected by cancer in Yorkshire.
The Golfathon challenge took place on Tuesday 29 May at Forest of Galtres Golf Club. The team of ten golfers took on the gruelling challenge of completing three rounds of golf in one day, teeing off at 7.00am and arriving at the nineteenth hole just as darkness was drawing in. Between them, they walked over 150 miles and hit over 3,000 golf balls. Six of the other golfers are also teachers.
When the golfers eventually made it to the nineteenth hole, trophies were handed out for such accolades as ‘nearest the pin’ and ‘longest drive’. The proud trophy winners were Mikey Warriner, Tom Robinson and Darren Bebb.
Richard said “I wanted Supported Recruitment to give something back to the community and raise funds for charity, so as I’m a keen golfer, I had the brainwave of roping some of my friends and colleagues into the Golfathon!
“The long day, the pain and blisters were all worth it as we’ve raised over £2,000 for Candlelighters. They do such amazing work supporting people throughout Yorkshire who have been touched by children’s cancer. We’re absolutely thrilled with the total we have raised, but the fundraising page is still open should anyone still want to donate to the cause: https://give.everydayhero.com/uk/york-golf-challenge.”
Brian Curran, Candlelighters Corporate Fundraiser said “We are grateful to Richard and everyone at Supported Recruitment, as well as everyone who participated to make the day such a success. We are proud to support families in the York area and make life a little easier for people dealing with the challenge of a lifetime.”
